Globalization of Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries Essay Example for Free
Globalization of Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries Essay Globalization of both the economy and the society has confronted the world over the past decade. A shift of focus and interest from the local market to the international setting has demanded innovation not just in corporate leadership as new information; forms of communication and technology are being offered to be utilized in encouraging and reinforcing interaction among individuals. Fewer trade barriers and unprecedented technological advances have accelerated the pace of globalization. The advances in communication technology make it easier to enter the international market through the efficient marketing and advertising strategies that a number of international business organizations invest in by utilizing the services provided by the Worldwide Web. Electronic data communication (EDC) facilitates the exchange of data at tremendous speeds; it sorts and integrates data with other information available to the recipients (businesses, banks, capital markets) from other sources. Individual countries and trading and currency blocs alike view the fast-moving e-business sector as having a direct impact on the countriesââ¬â¢ and blocsââ¬â¢ competitiveness in the global market. Increased market competition identifies continuous adjustment and improvement in the production lines of countries to recognize the participation of smaller business units. The free flow of goods and services, the establishment of functioning trade blocs like the European Union, more favorable regulations for foreign direct investment, and e-commerce are now major features of the global market. The introduction of the new division of international labor calls for evaluation and reorganization of the business operations as well as a reassessment of the current technological practices. The Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries Industry in FRANCE Royle and Towers (2002) note that the Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries industry has now extended throughout the world, expanding in FRANCE and other European countries, bakeshops are often considered as a characteristic of the new global culture. These bakeshops are illustrated as informal, have uniform service to anyone regardless of social status and focuses on giving quick-service to its customers. The industry grew out of a cultural philosophy that greatly values friendliness more than propriety, basically more than traditions of gracious living and democratic consensus over status-based divisions. Firms within the Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries industry fall into the category of a competitive market structure. According to Lipset (1991), the competitiveness of a market refers to the extent to which individual firms have the control or power to influence market prices or the terms on which their products are sold. It must be noted that ââ¬Å"the less power an individual firm has to influence the market in which it sells its products, the more competitive the market isâ⬠(Lipset, 1991). In the recent years, the integration of strategic planning and functional marketing has been perhaps the most relevant development in the field of marketing management as marketing managers have all the more realized that tactical marketing decisions must be made within a wider strategic framework. Marketing Mix (4Ps) Product ââ¬â Products that Cakes and Cookies are offering can be improved and expanded. For example they can add more cakes that suit the taste and needs of their consumers in FRANCE. Cakes and Cookies should not limit their products according to the old time customers in the U. S. Placement ââ¬â Decisions involving the place/distribution are also crucial in meeting the needs of the target market. There are many factors to consider such as the choice of location where the product will be sold to the consumers, and the various channel distribution required to bring the product in the target market. Elements of distribution channel include the packaging, storage facilities, transportation, and the members of the channel itself. Cakes and Cookies should make their customized packages and boxes for their Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries and this should be appropriate according to the taste of the FRANCE consumers. It is always relevant to choose a channel pattern that is suitable for the target market needs. Price Among other factors considered in pricing are the needs of the market, the costs involved, the effect on margins and the value offered at a minimum for the consumer without the price cut hitting the company image. It is not surprising therefore, that Cakes and Cookies entry price strategy became a model in starting business in the area. Finally, it is interesting to note that in FRANCE have consistently agreed with Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries pricing strategy for many years. This shows that consumers give their loyalty as long as the price is right and fair. Promotions ââ¬â Today, personal selling, sales promotions, in the forms of souvenirs, and point-of-purchase displays (POP), publicity through non-paid presentation of the product to the target market (feature articles and special news coverage), and public relations (established link with the stakeholders) were utilized by Cakes and Cookies Similarly, TV and radio advertising are important channels to promote Cakes and Cookies Usually, effective television and radio advertising involves a good opening punch line, presentation of the competitorââ¬â¢s product (brand must not be mentioned) and its weakness, testimony of experts or renowned personalities/authorities, and in some cases, use of famous movie actors and actress also helps. Further, the existence of Internet and the continued revolution in the world of Information Technology are certainly positive signs for the blossoming of many new advertising opportunities. For instance, pop-up ads and email ads have started to inva de the Internet. Most advertising firms have also started to exert efforts to make their advertisements appealing to the public (Chow and Holden, 1997). Segment, Target and Positioning of the Product Of all the components of a marketing plan, perhaps the most overlooked but most critical element is the definition of the target market. According to Lovelock and Young (2000), it is a homogenous group of people or organizations that a company wishes to appeal to. There are two basic targets for a product or service: the user and the non-user segments. Thus, there are also two business and marketing decisions that the company must decide upon in light of the basic targets. The first is to cultivate the present market alone while the second is to go after non-users. The former can inspire consumer loyalty which is an important factor in the survival of any business. In the case of Cakes and Cookies, they should categorize their target market into two market segments: (1) the Cakes and Cookies patrons or those who have already tried the product, and (2) the Cakes and Cookies non-consumers. The Cakes and Cookies consumers further classified into (a) males and (b) females in order to differentiate the market appeal and competitiveness of the offered products in terms of sex as well as the specific consumers for specific types of Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries. in order to determine the competitiveness of each product per se. the Cakes and Cookies non- consumers, on the other hand, are further grouped into (a) those who do not eat Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries in general, and (b) those who eat other Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries. These market segmentation schemes according to product use will provide important information regarding the overall competitiveness of Cakes and Cookies products as well as viability and opportunities for encouraging sweeteners non-users to not just try any other average sweeteners but to choose Cakes and Cookies products among others. Moreover, companies now face the challenge of making its target consumers respond accordingly to their marketing efforts and those who understand its consumersââ¬â¢ responses will have a great competitive advantage (Kotler Armstrong, 2001). In this light, Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries should keep in mind the differences that are distinct between and among other bakeshops target market based on different cultural backgrounds which significantly affect the effectiveness of the campaign. The fact is, there may be ideas that will not be applicable across the diverse target market population. Studies on the relationship of consumer behavior and their personal values and cultural orientation as well as their beliefs on certain principles, the dispositions they hold and side they take on political, gender and social problems and issues will be likewise duly accounted. Positioning The changing world has then placed much emphasis on the importance of communication for effective marketing. All types of communication are involved in marketing communications, including literature, training, advertising, mail, telephone, product promotions and other contact relevant to marketing communication. Among the channel members, even follow-up on complaints as well as customer billing may be included within the communication loop. In order to effectively serve the marketing channel, correct timing and accuracy in communications is essential. Moreover, it is important for the company to recognize that all members of the channel have an obligation or important role in maintaining the efficacy of marketing communications. Organizations that capitalize on customers active participation in organizational activities can gain competitive advantage through greater sales volume, enhanced operating efficiencies, positive word-of-mouth publicity, reduced marketing expenses, and enhanced customer loyalty (Lovelock Young, 1979). Channel communications works in a two-way system wherein information transfers to the user and bounces all the way back to the producer (Goldberg McCalley, 1992). In other words, marketing communications works like a feedback system, which allows company producers to relay information to the customers. In response to the provided information, consumers give certain reactions or behaviors. In this light, the electronic transformation of the services offered by Chocolate Lovers, Cakes and Pastries will result to better and more efficient and effective customer service system to the clientele. Moreover, the functionality of the online portal for the marketing and advertising needs of the agency will most possibly result to increase customer reach, satisfaction level and return of investment. Furthermore, if consumers somehow become better customers that is, more knowledgeable, participative, or productive the quality of the service experience will likely be enhanced for the customer and the organization (Bowers, Martin Luker, 1990). Finally, some of the ways that companies acquired cost advantages are by improving process efficiencies, gaining unique access to a large source of lower cost materials, making optimal outsourcing and vertical integration decisions, or avoiding some costs altogether. If competing firms are unable to lower their costs by a similar amount, the firm will be able to sustain a competitive advantage based on cost leadership.

camp hill riot :: essays research papers
Camp Hill the day that lasted 72 hours On October 25, 1989 more than 1,300 inmates at the Camp Hill State Correctional Institution rioted. The rioters took at least 8 hostages, lighting 4 fires and caused millions of dollars in damage. More then 35 staff members, 5 inmates, 1 firefighter and 1 state trooper sustain injuries in the worst uprising in Pennsylvania history. Inmates returning from an exercise yard in the late afternoon overwhelmed correctional staff and seized hostages. Inmates were reportedly upset about overcrowding and suspended privileges. They set fires, which destroyed more then half of the 31 buildings and took hostages who were not only guards but also other inmates who were not willing to join in the rioting. The riot ended through negotiations and the inmates were confined to their cells. The superintendent informed news and officials that the riot was over. The next day the superintendent met with the inmates to discuss their grievances. Unknown to the superintendent or staff many of the cells which the inmates were confined to were not secure permitting the start of a second riot later that day allowing prisoners to escape and take more then 17 more hostages and injuring 138 officers. About 800 troopers were on the scene during the peak of the riots with hundreds more en route to begin shift changes as the riots continued for a 3 day period. Negotiations were again attempted, but the riot finally ended when state police forcibly entered the compound. The biggest problem at Camp Hill was that it was originally designed for juveniles but was transitioned to adult offenders with no consideration for the inadequacy of the physical facility or the necessary training. At the time the riots began Camp Hillââ¬â¢s capacity was 1,826 but housed more then 2,600 inmates running at a 142% capacity.

Informative Evaluation
During my research on a public speaker, I had come across this motivational and leadership speaker Steve Bedwell. On February 17, 2012, he gave a speech on how people tend to act towards different situations and other people. In an auditorium full of business and health care leaders he also jump starts them into effective action with what goes on in the world with people. Steve Bedwell does an excellent job on trying to get the audienceââ¬â¢s attention with interesting stories that keep them focused on what he is trying to say. While presenting he tends to keep eye contact with the audience. He also does not use any notecards, which this indicates that he knows his topic enough and is able to talk smoothly through his presentation. Also, to keep the audience interested, he adds humor in his presentation to help explain his connections. Bedwell does such a great job with his speech, that I do not see where he needs any improvement. In this speech he teaches the audience that the thi ngs we miss, tends to cripple our thinking and where the things we make up fuels our toxic emotions. When the perspective on any situation is not producing the results that you want, you should ask what am I missing and what am I making up.But usually we do not look at these two concepts of a perspective; we tend to assume the worst of that situation. In this speech Bedwell had explained that he was on a plane and had greeted the guy sitting next to him and the guy replied back to Bedwell by lifting his newspaper between them. In this situation Bedwell had thought of the guy as a jerk and when the guy tapped on Bedwellââ¬â¢s shoulder, he had tried ignoring him back. Bedwell turned towards him and the guy handed him a note, which said ââ¬Å"excuse me can you please call my wife and tell her Iââ¬â¢m safely on the plane and on the way home. Bedwell assumed that the guy was a jerk, and did not think of what could have been the reason for why the guy did not speak to him, and the reason was that the guy was deaf. My personal experience would be when I was at work and this guy came in and I started taking his order and he was getting irritated with me, so he left out of the store irritated and mad. I assumed that the guy was ignorant to get frustrated the way he did. But in a way I should have looked at the situation in that the guy might have been having a bad day. Speeches usually are informative, or mainly have a great reason for being issued to the audience.Having an effective speech requires the speaker to have eye contact, uses appropriate hand gestures, a positive look on what they are explaining and mainly to present to audience in a way they will understand best. My scoring on this presentation by Steve Bedwell was mostly 4ââ¬â¢s and 5ââ¬â¢s because I did not see really anything wrong with his speech. Competency 1, on the topic I gave a 4 because, he had chosen a topic and only went over it a little bit. Competency 2, the thesis and specific pu rpose I gave a 5 because, he explains the purposes on each idea that was in the thesis.Competency 3, the introduction I gave a 5 because, he stated the purpose of his speech and a review on the information that referred to the introduction. Competency 4, I have a 4 because, in some parts he gives supporting information on what he was explaining, but some parts he did not cover what it referred to. Such as when he had the board and he was putting up fingers and the audience had to guess what number was on the board. Competency 5, I gave a 3 because, his information was in good contrasts to what he was talking about, but in some ways the information felt out of place.Competency 6, I gave a 3 because, his conclusion did not bring up anything new but could have went back and summarized more of his topic. Competency 7, I gave a 5 because, all the language that was used in the process of this speech was acceptable for the audience to comprehend and stay focused. Competency 8, I gave a 5 b ecause, Bedwell did show his tone in different varieties of pitch to emphasize important or interesting facts. Competency 9, I gave a 5 because, all of his grammar was fluent and acceptable by the audience in that they understood what he was saying.Competency 10, I also gave a 5 because, his hand gestures toward everything especially toward the exciting parts had shown the emotions he was trying to convey. In order to evaluate a presentation you have many specific parts that you have to look at. Such as, how the presentation is presented, does the information that is given refer back to the introduction and thesis? The communication skills that are required during a presentation should include eye contact, appropriate language, grammar and organizational pattern, to better connect with the audience and keep them interested in what you are presenting. In reviewing the speaker Steve Bedwell and his speech on motivational and leadership situations, I now think of looking at all the diff erent parts of a scenario instead of just one. By looking at many you have a better understanding of what is happening. There are many people out in the world today that do not think as critically as others do and this tends to be a problem towards others. Overall I think Steve Bedwell does a fantastic job of explaining what people tend to think and not think on certain situations. http://youtu. be/8tDwyIkxgjw

Cyber Bullying And Its Effect On Society - 1201 Words
INTRO Cyber bullying is any form of bullying that takes place over the internet, whether via texts, twitter or other forms of social media. Approximately 52% of children have reported being cyber bullied at one point, or another*. While this number may not seem catastrophic, this statistic is based only on the instances of cyber bullying that have been reported. The reality is that there are many more children who have been cyber bullied, and did not tell anyone that it was happening to them. Another likelihood is that some victims have simply overlooked the bullying projected towards them via the internet. Given the amount of time that children spend texting, on Facebook, or on other social media websites, the likelihood of children experiencing cyber bullying, reported or not, is high. BODY PARAGRAPH 1 Cyber bullying can give a person the same feelings as bullying in the real world. One who is bullied will have a significantly lower self-esteem (this is a generalization, but is true for most), and may eventually begin to question their self-worth. In several different documented cases, the subjects of bullying have contemplated, attempted, and sometimes even succeeded suicide. At some (now required by law for all schools) consolers are present in an attempt to help people deal with bullying. History of the Electric Blanket
The first crude electric blanket was invented in the early 1900s. The heated bed coverings bore little resemblance to the electric blankets we are familiar with today. They were big and bulky heating devices that were dangerous to use, and the blankets were really considered an oddity. An inventor called S.I. Russell patented an electric blanket and some consider him the inventor of the modern electric blanket. Use in Sanitariums In 1921, electric blankets started receiving more attention after being regularly used in tuberculosis sanitariums. Tuberculosis patients were routinely prescribed lots of fresh air, which included sleeping outdoors. The blankets were used to keep the patients warm. When any product comes to public attention, attempts to improve design begins and the electric blanket was no exception. Thermostat Control In 1936, the first automatic, electric blanket was invented. It had a separate thermostat control which automatically turned on and off, in response to room temperature. The thermostat also served as a safety device, turning off if hot spots in the blanket occurred. Later, thermostats were wired into the blankets and multiple thermostats were used. This basic design remained until 1984 when thermostats-free electric blankets were introduced. Warming Pads Heated Quilts That in 1946 the first automatic electric blanket went on sale in the US for $39.50, but the term electric blanket was not used until the 1950sââ¬âprior to that, these blankets used to be called warming pads or heated quilts Todays electric blankets can respond to both room and body temperatures. The blankets can even send more heat to your cold feet and less to your torso.

Analysis Of The Movie The Dark Knight - 2018 Words
What is the typical menu of villainous images placed before us when we dine out at a movie theater? A scientist has his face deep-cleaned in a bell jar of acid to the epidermal enthusiasm of his beauticians (Darkman); a psychopathic criminal mastermind reigns chaos to the citizens of Gotham (The Dark Knight) and another sequel, eight years on, despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent s crimes, caped crusader feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with the villainââ¬â¢s (who knows the caped crusader all too well) plans to destroy the city (The Dark Knight Rises). This raises the question; Is the role of the villain in Hollywood important for a successful movie? In the movie industry, the success of a movie is based on the amount of revenue the movie brings in, creativity (whether it be time frame or characters), and the story line of the movie. But in order to fo rm a valid opinion on whether or not a villain is needed in a movie to be considered successful, first we must discuss the history of movies that included villains, iconic movie villains and the success of their movies, and finally, the importance of the villain in cinema. Naming and Shaming of Young Offenders to the persistent crimes
Question: What an Update on the Naming Prohibition Of young ? Answer: Introduction Naming and shaming of young offenders is a measure that is intended at making the offenders known to the public with the thinking that they will feel ashamed and stop committing their usual offenses. This proposed punitive change seeks to prevent offenses committed by young offenders. While the measure is practical, alone cannot provide a substantial solution to the persistent crimes. It must be supported with other actions to ensure conformance by this age group. In presenting this issue, the analysis will look at the consequences of the proposed punitive changes to the young offenders, the different jurisdictions that cover the issue and other relevant policies applicable to this move. Finally, the analysis will provide a detailed review of the demerits of the proposed change and the reason it should be other actions. Background Punitivism is a context where courts become increasingly used to curb crime (Chappell Lincoln 2007). This commonly happens when the society does not have many options to deal with the increased criminal activities. The magnitude and severity of the young criminals are accelerated by the social, economic and cultural conditions prevailing in a given country or economy. This is proved by a universal evidence of what is happening across the globe and in particular those districts with the declining economies and poor districts found in large cities. The committing of these crimes is usually spotted at different levels of each social structure including a whole society, social establishment, and social groups as well as other organizations. Because the evil is clearly linked with the trends in the society, it now emerges that punitive measures are not sustainable as factors that trigger the behavior still exist. Despite this, the government has a proposed punitive changes, "naming and s haming young offenders," to mitigate crimes. The political ideologies behind this move include fear of unstable society and the inability to deal with a large number of underage criminals if put sentenced to jail (Youth Justice Act 1992). There are two main rationales to the step being proposed, and these are responsibilisation where the government is imagining that the offenders if named and shamed will become responsible citizens and also managerialism where the political class feels that the activities of the group should be managed to ensure a stable and secure community. Analysis The idea behind naming and shaming of young offenders is because the law prohibits the courts from prosecuting the miners who are between 10 and 16 years. At this age, it is expected that the individuals needed to be guided and showed good morals and behaviors that integrate with the rest of the members of the society (Jodie, 2013). Worrying is the fact these crimes persist even though on the declining trend, new young offenders are still joining the group. For example, in between 2010 and 2011, the crimes declined as follows: homicide rate 56%, assault 10%, robbery 39%, and sexual assault 31% and drug abuse 1% (Crofts and Witzleb, 2011). The agenda of the change is to ensure that the crimes committed by the minor groups are completely wiped out. The three main pillars for naming and shaming are to make the offenders consider their behaviors, reduce recidivism and support by the victims (Chappell Lincoln, 2009). Despite the punitive measure, the young people are faced with the follo wing consequences: naming and shaming of the offenders lead to their stigmatization and thus negative impact in the long term. This affects their rehabilitation process potentially leading to a situation where recidivism is increased through stronger juvenile bonds in the criminal subcultures (Australian Law Reform Commission, 2008). The result is that the named and shamed person may end up considering himself a criminal and then become deviant to good behaviors. A good example of a national jurisdiction that has incorporated such change is the United Kingdom (Shelman Strang, 2007). With this law, unlike the case of Australia, naming and shaming follow a certain procedure. First and foremost, the case is identified, and if it is categorized as deviant, then the court rules that naming and shaming be done. This is different from Australia's case because it allows naming and shaming of deviant cases. Internationally, there is no clear law that has incorporated the naming and shaming of young offenders. Perhaps, it is because there are different underlying reasons for offenses committed by young offenders. The other relevant policy that is being applied to deal with crimes committed by underage offenders is the Youth Criminal Justice Act of 2002, of Canada. As opposed to naming and shaming and even punishing the youth who commit crimes, the society is encouraged to address developmental challenges and the needs of young people. Further, the Act also recognizes the need for the communities and families to partner in eliminating crimes and also rehabilitate the young offenders. In general, all interventions to youth crimes according to the Act must be fair and proportionate to the offense itself (Youth Criminal Justice Act 2003) Recommendations From the analysis, it is clear that the approach of naming and shaming is not adequate in solving the problem of crimes committed by young people. Apart from being a source of stigmatization it also deprives out the rights of individual offenders by publicly naming them. Based on the evidence from the Canadian case, it is recommended that holistically, the government should consider both the interests of the victims and the offenders. Most probably, there could be some societal and developmental issues such as poor living standards. In so doing, the government should consider charging all offenses proportionately, promoting rehabilitation points and refereeing the deviant offenders to other programs that can address the factors underlying their behavior. Conclusion This article has clearly analyzed the punitive approach of naming and shaming of young offenders as applied the government. Evidence show that its not adequate and therefore, recommending the use of a more elaborate approach that addresses the needs of the offenders before punishing or charging them.
